Overview
Our solar oven employs a pair of glass shells that mate together (e.g., via a gasket) to form a spherical oven that holds a vessel and material to be heated or cooked. Each glass shell has a transparent outer wall, an inner wall which is coated with a solar radiation converting material that converts UV light to heat, with a vacuum in the region between the inner and outer walls. This solar oven gets very hot, very fast, and cooks anything, anywhere, using simple sunlight. Our Fireball Solar Ovens works incredibly well, and clearly out performs solar tube ovens.
A Chef friendly solar oven should have an 8 or 9 inch diameter cooking chamber to be practical. A solar oven with a 9 inch chamber bakes a 9 inch pizza or apple pie and roasts a 5 pound chicken. We've used our prototype to bake bread, cake, cinnamon rolls and potatoes. To cook stew, chili and casseroles. It boils water faster than any other solar container and perfectly boils or poaches eggs and fries bacon. In fact, our solar oven heats up so quickly that we call it the Fireball™ solar oven.
